The project

MiniGames bundled nine short games into a single app, published while I was still a student. It was a testing ground: each game explored a different mechanic, reflex, memory, platforming or fighting, and the whole thing was a way to understand how App Store distribution actually worked, across a free and a paid version.

The most ambitious one, miniFight, offered two-on-two battles over Bluetooth multiplayer, at a time when mobile multiplayer was far from a given. Around the games sat leaderboards and achievements through OpenFeint and Game Center, a chat, forums, and iPod music controls without leaving the app.

What the app did

  • miniFight: two-on-two battles over Bluetooth multiplayer
  • Leaderboards and achievements through OpenFeint and Game Center
  • Forums and instant messaging between players
  • iPod music controls without leaving the app
